How Tattoo Removal Works: A Complete Breakdown for First-Timers

Thinking about tattoo removal but not sure what to expect? Whether it’s a faded design, a misspelled word, or a piece that no longer reflects who you are, tattoo removal is a highly personalized journey—and we’re here to guide you through it.

At Eraditatt, we specialize in safe, effective, and customized laser tattoo removal using advanced PiQ04 laser technology. With five convenient locations across Tampa, Bradenton, Orlando, St. Petersburg, and Palm Harbor, we’ve helped thousands take the next step in their tattoo journey.

What Is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser tattoo removal is a medical procedure that uses targeted light energy to break down tattoo pigment particles beneath your skin. These fragmented particles are then naturally flushed out by your immune system over time.

What Is PiQ04 Laser Technology?

The PiQo4 laser system uses multiple wavelengths along with picosecond and nanosecond pulse durations to target a range of tattoo ink colors. Treatment plans are customized according to the ink colors, tattoo density, location, skin characteristics and individual response. Results and the number of sessions needed vary for every tattoo.

Is Tattoo Removal Painful?

Pain levels vary depending on your personal threshold, the location of the tattoo, and its size. Most clients say the sensation is similar to a rubber band snap against the skin. However, treatments are quick—lasting anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

EradiTatt uses Zimmer Cryo cold-air cooling during treatment to support patient comfort. We do not administer injectable lidocaine or apply topical numbing medication in our clinics. Contact our team before using an over-the-counter numbing product.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of sessions needed depends on factors like:

  • Tattoo age

  • Ink density and color

  • Location on the body

  • Skin tone

  • Immune response

Body tattoos commonly require approximately 8–12 sessions, although every tattoo responds differently. The first three sessions are scheduled at least four weeks apart, with later sessions generally spaced eight weeks apart to allow continued healing and ink clearance.

What’s the Cost of Tattoo Removal?

Because every tattoo is different, we offer FREE consultation appointments at each of our six locations to give you an accurate quote. Factors that influence cost include size, color complexity, and the number of sessions required.

What Does the Healing Process Look Like?

Post-treatment, you may experience:

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Blistering (normal and temporary)

  • Scabbing or mild peeling

These are all signs your body is working to remove the ink. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and recommend avoiding sun exposure and vigorous activity during the healing phase.
